CMFT 2021 ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Federico Santa María Technical University in Valparaíso, Chile, will be hosting the 9th international conference on Computational Methods and Function Theory (CMFT 2021). (*) The original date was scheduled for july 12-16, 2021, but it has been postponed to january 10-14, 2022 due to COVID-19.
The conference will be held in memory of Stephan Ruscheweyh, who initiated the series of CMFT conferences and has been the driving force behind all the previous conferences. He was also one of the founding editors of the CMFT Journal. Stephan Ruscheweyh devoted his life to encouraging mathematics research and collaboration internationally. The organisers are honored to contribute to the continuation of his work.
The general theme of the meeting concerns various aspects of interaction of complex variables and scientific computation, including related topics from function theory, holomorphic function spaces, approximation theory and numerical analysis. Another important aspect of the CMFT meetings, previously held in Valparaíso 1989, Penang 1994, Nicosia 1997, Aveiro 2001, Joensuu 2005, Ankara 2009, Shantou 2013, and Lublin 2017, is to promote the creation and maintenance of contacts with scientists from diverse cultures.
The conference program consists of invited one-hour lectures, of invited and contributed 25 minute talks and of poster sessions. The organizers are very proud that the following ten eminent mathematicians have agreed to deliver the plenary one-hour lectures:
- Christopher Bishop, Stony Brook
- Mario Bonk, UCLA
- Martin Chuaqui, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
- Stephen Gardiner, University College Dublin
- Erik Lundberg, Florida Atlantic University
- Masatoshi Noumi, Kobe University
- Igor Pritsker, Oklahoma State University
- Ed Saff, Vanderbilt University
- Malik Younsi, University of Hawaii
Limited funds are expected to be available for partial support of travel/local expenses of participants from developing countries.
NOTE: Stephan Ruscheweyh was a Professor at the UTFSM - Federico Santa María Technical University in Valparaíso, Chile, with the support of DAAD - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, in the triennium 1986-1989. Since that time he was a regular Visiting Professor of UTFSM almost every year. In 1989 he initiated the international series of CMFT conferences at UTFSM.

1. OVERVIEW
The Federico Santa María Technical University in Valparaíso, Chile, will be hosting the 9th international conference on Computational Methods and Function Theory (CMFT 2021) to be held 10–14 January 2022.
The web page of the conference is http://cmft2021.inf.utfsm.cl/
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions around the globe, and in particular in Chile, the CMFT 2021 conference had first to be moved from July 2021 to January 2022, hoping that the expected pandemic situation by the end of 2021 would be better, so that the conference could be a normal one with physical participation. However, according to the information currently available, this hope can no longer be kept.
Therefore, the organizing committees have decided to hold CMFT 2021 in a completely virtual mode. This has certainly been a painful decision, but we believe that a virtual conference is the most sensible solution in the current situation.
Thus CMFT 2021 will be celebrated on 10-14 January 2022 in virtual mode using some electronic platform.
We will strive to maintain the spirit of work and collaboration that has always characterized the past CMFT conferences around the globe, and to accomplish this, we will rely on an online platform, allowing the presentation of invited lectures and contributed talks, as well as interaction with the speakers.
The conference will be held in memory of Stephan Ruscheweyh, who initiated the series of CMFT conferences and who has been the driving force behind all the previous conferences. He was also one of the founding editors of the CMFT Journal.

2. CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
We now invite participants to submit abstracts for 25-minute contributed talks.
- Abstract Submission Period: 15 July – [UPDATED] 31 October 2021
- Acceptance Notification: [UPDATED] 15 November 2021
- Deadline Camera Ready Abstract Submission: [UPDATED] 30 November 2021
Abstracts will be processed through EasyChair. An EasyChair account is necessary to upload an abstract. Go to
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cmft2021
to create an account and upload your abstract.
Abstract selection will be competitive due to the significantly reduced number of presentations at CMFT 2021. The selection will be based purely on the abstract.
3. REGISTRATION.
Although CMFT 2021 will be completely virtual, there are several expenses that we have to cover, in particular the organization of the conference, the setup of the electronic platform to be used during the conference, and similar expenses.
Thus we have to charge a non-refundable fee from every participant, regardless of whether he/she presents a talk or not, as follows:
Registration fees:
- 15 October – 15 November 2021: USD 50.-
- 16 November – 30 December 2021: USD 60.-
Precise information about how to proceed in order to pay the fees will be communicated later.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at cmft2021@usm.cl
